"Vlaanderen Zingt" - Flanders Sing

"Belgium: A country invented by the British to annoy the French" - Charles de Gaulle

Back on 21st July 2011 (Belgian Independence Day) we went along to the last day of the three-day Brugge Tripeldagen under the Belfry Tower at the Markt not really knowing what to expect.

To begin with a band called Freddy & De Hartenbrekers (Freddy & The Heartbreakers) performed, and then a Flemish man with an accordian performed (Le Grand Julot) so we made the most of the beer tent. Then at the end was the Flanders Sing-Along, a Sing-Song of 37 songs in English, Flemish, French, old and modern. Examples include A Hard Day's Night by The Beatles, Take Me Home Country Roads by John Denver, Proud Mary by Ike & Tina Turner, and I Gotta Feeling by The Black Eyed Peas.

Everyone was very friendly, with loads of locals and a few tourists, and it was loads of fun trying to sing-along to Dutch and French songs. It was defintely one of the best nights we've had in Bruges and we will be going next year.
